Lento has left the building

Lento has finished his bass parts and left. We will dearly miss him.

To honor his contribution to this album, here's another very manly picture of Lento.

In this picture: memories from happier days.

All this time

After the vocals for "Walk under Water", Daniel recorded the guitar for "All this Time", a special track...more to come. Right now Lento is recording the last bassline and James will be playing his banjo part.

Vocals pt2

Sam finally managed to convince Daniel to use a single microphone. On the other hand, the background decoration has drastically improved.

First track for vocals is "Walk Under Water".

Vocals

Daniel has started recording vocals. As he is suffering of megalomanic tendencies, he insists on using a maximum of microphones...

Early hours

The recording session went very late last night. Earlier, James did an incredible amount of guitar tracks for "Ready".
In fact we had to stop working (doing bass tracks) at 1 o'clock in the morning, because our ears were so jammed, we couldn't figure out if the tracks we were laying down, were even in tune.

Here's proof of what happens when there's too much Stella Artois involved!

Working late today

We decided to take a small break at 20:00 and drive to a belgian upper-class burger restaurant to gather energy for a longer nightshift.

You surely know that feeling when you want something very bad but you know that it's not good for you. Here's a picture of it...

First sunbeams in 7 days

Finally we had a little break from the rain we had the last entire week, so we got outside to work on our suntan.

New shoes

As per public request, here are Lento's new sneakers....
Have a look at his "Héichwaasser".

Men power

The question is: what makes you feel more like a man than buying new gear and turning knobs on a panel with blinking lights?

Right! Fixing gear! This automatically raises your testosterone level to a point where you could kill a deer with your bare hands and devour it's rare meat (yikes!).

This leads to more manly poses like this one.

A negative side effect is that you may lose some screws while doing your manly poses and forcing all members of the band to crouch on the floor looking for that damn thing.

Day 7

2 days left, 2 songs left to record. We will see how we progress the next couple of days. Maybe we will stay an extra day if it's needed.

Recording the cello

We stopped late yesterday around 23:30. Emi has recorded the cello parts for "Satellites" and parts of "Concrete walls". We will finish the cello recordings this morning...fingers crossed.

Emi has arrived

Emmanuelle has finally arrived to record the cellos. After only 5 minutes she already started to crush some balls...

Daniel aka "Lazy Bone"

Musician's life can be very hard! After having a little powernap, Daniel stays in the same position to record the guitars for "Give in 4". Meanwhile Lento bought some new stuff...new shoes. Damn, no gear for his bass, but only this time...

Fräuleinbesuch

Lento recorded the bassline for "Walk under Water" under the draconic surveillance of his girlfriend.
You see that? Aaiii!

He did this with an old Rickenbacker, made in the U.S. and A.

Vibra-Mich

Guitars are done for "Walk under water". Mich is recording the vibraphone now...

By the way, we recorded the drums for "Walk under water" with this crappy bass drum that we found on the studio attic.

Day 6

Even if we worked late yesterday, we started early this morning. James is recording the guitar to "Walk under water" right now, which figures his famous "chicken picking" that goes a little bit like this...

Late in the afternoon, Vero and Emi will finally join us and add massive female sex appeal to our sessions. Of course, Emi will bring her cello and start recording early in the evening.

11:30 pm and still recording...

Sam is trying to find the right natural reverb for Daniel's guitar on "Walk under Water".
Right now he is recording in a small place with a blanket in front of him.

Eating in a studio

We have the great luck that Tine and Stijn from the studio make great lunch every day for us.

And they really make great stuff for us like...

See?

We eat around 14:00 an go on working until 23:00. By then, all restaurants in an around Waimes are closed and none of us is in the mood for cooking (except Sam who made a great spaghetti carbonara a few days ago). That's why we mostly eat very unhealthy stuff in the evening like...

Thank God we all have our personal trainers when we come home, otherwise none of us could have such muscle packed bodies.

In the picture: real men.

Recording guitars for "Concrete walls"

After finishing up "Come for you", we started working on "Concrete walls". Daniel just finished the acoustic guitars and now it's James' turn to record the electric guitars.

Here's a view from the recording room into the control room.

More amps, more guitars and other stuff

We are trying a lot of gear as the LaChapelle studio has got a lot of funky gear to use...

Day 5

Day 5 at LaChapelle:

We started around 10 and continued to work on "Come for you". Daniel has already recorded the acoustic guitar and Lento is currently recording the bass. After that, we will move on to song 5 "Concrete walls".

For breakfast, we decided that eggs weren't enough and added some extra bacon today.

This pig didn't die in vain.

The cat stopped by and said hello. We thank it for adding a bit more cuteness to our blog. Hail to the cat!

Mich has left the building

After recording the organ for "Come for you", Mich said goodbye (as you see in this faked archive photo we took some days ago because we forgot to shoot one as he was leaving) got into his car and is right now on his way back to Luxembourg. But don't you fear, dear reader, Mich will be back tomorrow night. It's like in those horror movies: they always come back!

Fear this man

Meanwhile, we're still working on bass and guitars for "Come for you".

Recording "Satellites"

We are currently working on "Satellites", which by the way is not the Eurovision Song Contest winning song, but an old song that Daniel rediscovered in his closet and decided to change entirely.

James is recording right now his guitar on an old Roland amp from the 80ies, probably one of the ugliest amps ever designed by human kind. We just call it the "ugly fucker".

Oh boy, that's really ugly!

Mich has most of his work done and is basically hanging around and drinking beer.

Proof

Here's another picture of our beautiful recording room. Just like that...
